SKILL UP RURAL GIRLS (SURG)
Day One (15th September 2022) and Day Two (16th September 2022)
The implementing and supporting partners of the SKILL UP RURAL GIRLS (SURG) collaborative project embarked on a transformative journey in the Iloti community, Ikole-Ekiti Local Government Area, Ekiti state. Their mission was to empower women through training and entrepreneurship development.
Upon arrival, the team was warmly received by the local head of the community and approximately 25 women who were eager to participate in the program. Mr Ochai ThankGod, the Project Coordinator of the BibiGrace Foundation, expressed gratitude and explained the purpose of their visit.
Over the course of the training, Mrs Olajumoke, the Executive Director of FELAD, served as the facilitator. She guided the women through the process of producing liquid soap, Dettol, and Izal, providing step-by-step instructions and engaging them in practical exercises. The women displayed great enthusiasm and attentiveness, actively participating and asking insightful questions.
The following day, Mrs Olajumoke conducted an entrepreneurship development lecture, emphasizing the importance of packaging, branding, and marketing. She encouraged the trainees to focus on their chosen path and shared the acronym FOCUS, which stands for Follow One Course Until Successful.
Mr Blessing Dada, another supporting partner, expanded on the topic of branding, highlighting the significance of authenticity and specificity in creating a successful brand identity. The trainees actively participated in discussions and deepened their understanding of entrepreneurship principles.
Certificates were awarded to the trainees, marking the successful completion of the program. Mr. Ochai ThankGod commended the women for their growth and determination throughout the training. Group pictures were taken to commemorate the memorable experience shared with the community.
The program concluded with expressions of gratitude, acknowledging the trainees and the community for their active involvement and support. The project team departed with the expectation that the acquired knowledge and skills would empower these women to create a better future for themselves and their community.
